New Amsterdam School is a community founded on a reverence for both childhood and nature.

The philosophy of the school is built on the study of human development and combines an engaging academic curriculum with deep social-emotional learning, outdoor education, and artistic skills in order to meet the whole child as they unfold. The community of parents, teachers, and alumni are diverse in thought, background, and experience. They form a warm, loving circle in which each child can safely and joyfully grow into their best self.

New Amsterdam School has been a true haven for our daughters. The care, warmth, thoughtfulness, and dedication of the teachers can’t be overstated.

Why Waldorf?

Waldorf schools offer a developmentally appropriate, experiential, and academically-immersive approach to progressive education. They integrate the arts in all academic disciplines for children in all grades and inspire a life-long love of learning. Founded over 100 years ago, Waldorf education is based on the insights, teachings, and principles of artist and scientist Rudolf Steiner. Steiner outlined Waldorf pedagogy from an understanding of human development that addresses the needs of the growing child during a time of great societal change, much like our own.

Embracing Anti-Bias & Anti-Racism

We honor and give thanks to the Lenape people, whose stolen land our school sits upon.

At New Amsterdam, we seek to actively dismantle explicit and implicit racism and align ourselves with the evolving, modern Waldorf movement that embraces anti-bias and anti-racism.

Our faculty and staff work with DEI educators and invest in professional training to ensure that we are constantly evolving, accountable, and building business practices that support anti-racism. Together, we are committed to opening and continuing dialogue, unlearning, re-learning, creating space, and taking action with our community to bring understanding, healing, and change.

New Amsterdam School takes on this responsibility with humility and utmost conviction.

We love being part of this supportive community where parents are involved and teachers and staff respect and care for each other and love what they do.”
